Master Taningco is the only individual to ever proceed his training under Grandmaster Gasper for over 26 years! Grandmaster Gasper has incorporated the arts of Chinese Shaolin Kung-fu, Okinawan Kempo Karate-do, Judo and Jujitsu. Chautauqua TAIQI (TAICHI)

T’ai Chi Ch’ uan (also transcribed as “Taijiquan”), is a “soft” fighting style belonging to the “Internal Family” (Nei Jia), along with such martial arts as Pa Kua Chang (Baguazhang), and Hsing-I Ch’ uan (Xing-Yi). T’ai Chi matches the extra exertive, “external” (Wai Jia), martial arts, like Kenpo Karate and Muay Thai. Translated, T’ai Chi Ch’ uan implies “Ultimate Boxing” or “ Endless Fist,” and can be traced back to the old Taoist “Chang, San-Feng,” though the system might have existed for 1000s of years before that time in a much more basic form and under a different name.

No matter when or specifically by whom it was started, Chautauqua TaiChi seems straight linked to and rooted in Taoist principles of Yin and Yang.

Chautauqua AIKIJUTSU (AIKIDO)

The name of our style (RYU) is Icho and has a really unique definition. The Patch we wear on our gi is a layout of 3 ginkgo leaves. “Icho” is Japanese for ginkgo. The 3 leaf design is Sensei Lau’s family crest. The 3 leaves stands for mind, body, and spirit. The Icho Ryu oath reads:

  • Train your mind
  • Develop your body
  • Polish your spirit

As you practice the Chautauqua Aikijutsu you must constantly aim to establish these 3 concepts.

Chautauqua FILIPINO KALI / ESKRIMA

Chautauqua Kali is recognized for its effective footwork, fluid hand strategies, and potent weaponry. When these details combine, Kali is a complete martial arts training and self-defense program.

During all the war and strife, the art of Arnis de Mano struggled along. In early times, it was not known as Arnis de Mano. It was called Escrima and was practiced largely for self defense by the pre-Spanish Filipinos. These individuals were noted for their friendly nature and legendary hospitality.

The older Filipinos, who made stick fighting an art, favored to hit bone and chose a stick to a blade. The stick left shattered bone instead of a clean cut. The hitting end of the stick can travel many times the speed of the empty hand. It really feels absolutely nothing, whether it hits bone or flesh.

Chautauqua Self-Defense / ISD / Krav Maga

Chautauqua Krav Maga is a modern, and dynamic, military self-defense and fighting system developed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces derived from a combination of techniques sourced from Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, Aikido, Filipino Kali, Muay Thai, Jiujitsu, and Karate. Its focus on real-world combative situations and their effectiveness and efficiency. Imi Lichtenfeld who was the founder of Krav Maga – with his experience from the street-fighting experience of Hungarian-Israeli martial artist made use of his training as a boxer and a wrestler.

Chautauqua KUNG-FU

Tien Shan Pai is a northern style which came from the Tien Shan mountains of northwestern China. It is well known in Taiwan as an reliable battling style. Simultaneously, it also includes graceful empty-hand and weapons forms stressing rhythm and “ing shou” – the presentation of power highlighted by solid thuds made by the hands.

Chautauqua Kungfu self-defense is defined by attacks from the side paired with multiple blocks, so that if one block falls short, the second can cover. Footwork is considered important to countering strikes; Tien Shan Pai concentrates on low, consistent steps sideways, along with swift “hidden” steps to deceive the enemy. Apart From Tien Shan Pai Kungfu, GM Taningco also teaching other 7 Martial Arts in Chautauqua and its neighboring areas.
