Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at TAMA
Master Taningco is a Certified Kempo Jiu-Jitsu Instructor under Master Gasper and Dan Zan-Ryu-Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Ramon Ancho. He also is trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Filipino Dumog ground-fighting. Senior Instructor, Thomas “J.R.” Reynolds, holds a black belt in BJJ under nationally recognized and Pan-American champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Master, Sensei Shawn Hammonds. Sensei Hammonds has been the technical advisor instructor for TAMA’s BJJ program since 2008, where he occasionally travels to TAMA to teach and evaluate the students’ progress.
Together Master Taningco and Sensei Reynolds present a unique blend of techniques from these diverse grappling styles. Our grappling and submission fighting curriculum includes:
- Jiu-Jitsu and Judo throws
- Break-fall techniques
- Ground fighting techniques, such as, submission holds, escapes, and reversals
- Total conditioning for ground fighting
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with uniforms (gi)
- Modern Sport Jiu-Jitsu with grappling shorts and shirts
Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) program is one our most popular and exciting classes. The students
are taught the Art of Practical combative Jiu-Jitsu and Sport grappling targeted for those interested in participating in Jiu-jitsu tournaments and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competitions.
In addition to our long-standing relationship with Sensei Shawn Hammonds, TAMA is also an affiliate of Professor Luiz Palhares, one of the rare individuals given the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jits by GrandMaster Carlos Robson Gracie in 2018. After training with the legendary Rolls and Carlos Gracie, Luiz Palhares began training under the undefeated Rickson Gracie, (who is said to have over 400 fights with one disputed technicality).
